Here at Errand Works, we are entering our favorite time of year — the season of giving. This time of year when we are so intentional about focusing on, appreciating and caring for others brings out the best in everyone. We’ve compiled our list of favorite ways to celebrate this season. Take a peak and join us in the giving spirit.
One of the simplest ways to help others this season, and all throughout the year, is to share financially. No matter how big or small, nonprofits use your dollars for good. Perhaps you lost a family member to Alzheimer’s and would like to honor them with a donation in their memory. If you have a loved one battling cancer, make a donation to the American Cancer Society in honor of their fight. If you adopted your favorite furry friend from a local rescue group, snap a pic and include a thank you note with your donation expressing your gratitude for helping you form that awesome bond.
If you’re looking for something that feels more personal to you, perhaps a donation of material goods is right for you. There are a variety of initiatives you can support this time of year. Toys for Tots, Angel Trees, gift drives for senior citizens in nursing homes and wishlist items for the SPCA are just a few of your options. If you have small children and you’re looking for a way to involve them, having them select gifts for a child in need can be very meaningful! And the same may be true for you, especially if your children are grown and toy shopping isn’t on your list anymore.
Offer Your Time
One of the most precious gifts we can give is that of our time. Spending time in service to others is good for the soul — young and old alike. Consider caroling to seniors who don’t get out often. Volunteer to be a Salvation Army bell ringer. Sign up for a shift at a charity gift wrapping booth. Serve dinner to the homeless or stock the shelves at a food pantry. If animals are your passion, sign up to walk and socialize shelter dogs. Donate your talents to an organization in need. There are infinite ways you can bless others with the gift of your time.
Giving thanks is what this season is all about, right? It’s the perfect time to show gratitude to those who make a difference in your life and in the community. From small surprise gifts for your postman to notes of appreciation to teachers for all they do, taking the time to express your gratitude makes a big impact. You could even provide a senior with a few hours of service from Errand Works! You never know how far one act of kindness can actually reach. Your small act may inspire another, and another and another.
