Notary Public Services

Notary Public ServicesWhen we tell customers that each of our personal assistants is a notary public, we are often met with many questions. What does a notary public do? What training do they have to have? Can you come to me? Well, today, we’ve got all the answers to those questions and more. Take a peek.

What Is a Notary Public?

A notary public is an official witness to the signing of one or more documents by one or more people. The notary observes that people are signing of their own free will, ensures they understand the contents of the documents and verifies their identities. They then sign their name to the document and stamp with their seal affirming all requirements have been met. Having a document notarized adds an extra layer of authenticity and is often required of official, legal documents.

What Kind of Training Do Notaries Have?

Requirements vary state to state and can be as complex as courses, tests and fingerprinting or as simple as submitting an application. In Virginia, you must be at least 18 years old, fluent in reading and writing English, be a legal resident of the United States, live or work in the Commonwealth of Virginia and have not been convicted of a felony. Virginia is a self-certifying state and does not require classes or testing to qualify. Notaries purchase their basic supplies and optional insurance.
